2009 Chapman Stick Workshop
Emmett Chapman
In 1969 while experimenting with tapping on a home made guitar,
Emmett Chapman turned the neck upward and discovered the "Free
Hands" tapping technique of playing with both hands parallel
to the frets. From there he set out to design an instrument to
facilitate this technique and the Stick was born.
Emmett sold his first production instrument in 1974. Since then Emmett has built and sold thousands of Stick instruments and has personally taught the best players in the world. To this day he continues to perform, teach and inspire.
The 2009 workshop at Interlochen is a rare opportunity to get to hear and study with Emmett Chapman outside of his home in southern California.
